SELF-EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS

Self-Education is the Major Key to Success in the 21st Century

I considered myself a failure when I realized that I never learned anything even after spending several years in school. The only things I learned which I had practical use of were reading, writing,  counting, and speaking.  Beyond that I was completely uneducated. It was only when I quit school where I pursued what I call my self-education. I became obsessed with success  and bought books that empowered my life by learning universal laws and principles of success. Immediately,  things turned for the better. I got involved in different careers like radio announcing, teaching,  being a recording executive and government employee, stage/movie/tv acting, singing, composing, book author, inspirational speaker, life coaching, and a few more.

Yuval Noah Harari said in his latest book "21 Lessons for the 21st Century"  that the 4 most important C's to learn are critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
In this period of great change due to technological advancements, traditional lifestyles and careers have become obsolete. A new way of thinking brought about by holistic education or education of the whole person is needed to survive in this 21st century. Never stop learning. Read a lot. They say rich people have massive libraries while poor people have huge flat TVs. Take a lot of risks and adopt a rich mindset while you're young. To be successful, happy, healthy, and financially comfortable in life, you have to be engaged in varying degrees in activities that you enjoy doing or excite you a lot. Among those activities should be those that earn you money. Know all the  things that excite you and find out what the world needs. You have to commit your self to master these things.

Getting an education is definitely important. But then don’t ever think your education stops as soon as you get out of school. You can learn so much even after school and outside school. Likewise, don’t ever think you’ll never have a future without a diploma. You can create your own business that can earn you as much as you desire for as long as you’re willing to devote time, skills, and all modes of efforts (including spiritual) to the income you desire.

There are many alternatives now to formal schooling. I’ve been studying a lot myself but I don’t attend school anymore. School is short-term. Education is a lifelong task.
So what should you be learning for your own good (and, in effect, for the good of your loved ones and of the country as well)?

First, Know What You Enjoy and Excite You

To be successful, happy, healthy, and financially comfortable in life, you have to be engaged in varying degrees in activities that you enjoy doing or excite you a lot. Among those activities should be those that earn you money that can make your life comfortable.

You can find all the information and lessons you want to learn in the internet especially Google and You Tube. Attend webinars relevant to what you’re interested in. (Yes, attending webinars is like going to school for a day or two, but the atmosphere in a webinar is more relaxed, and lecturers often have a very good sense of humor.) Your enthusiasm will lead you to people who can help you learn more. Once you become so good, no one can ignore you even if you don’t have a diploma or a degree.

There really are no dumb people. You just need to know what it is that you really want to do. You have to try your hands at different things at least once or twice to find out what you enjoy doing and which you can eventually turn into a profession. (In the beginning, you may have to do something you enjoy only as a hobby, a diversion that you have to invest time and money on.) To learn something of value, you have to commit time and discipline to it. And remember, it has to be fun too, or else forget it. I became successful in my career because I was enthusiastic about it and had lots of fun doing it.

More Fun in Self-Education

My self-education  is exactly the opposite of my experience in school. In school you must accept certain conditions and policies. You must study what teachers tell you to study. You have no choice. You have to pass their tests because they have to give you grades as a supposed measurement of what you have learned. I am concerned with so many out-of-school youths, unemployed graduates, underachievers, and unhappy individuals who think that their education has failed them. You only think it has. In truth, college has equipped you with knowledge and skills that can take you up to a certain level of success in life.

Most lessons we learn in school will only be relevant for two years or less because of the fast changing times. After two years or so, you will have to study again. You will have to re-tool, so to speak. But where will you find the new learning you need? Not from school anymore. Teachers have taught you what their syllabi required them to teach you. This time you will have to educate yourself. This is the reason why I’m trying to explain the difference between self-education and traditional education.

What is True Education?

What is education? Education is not memorizing a considerable amount of facts. It is not being physically present in classrooms, or passing exams. It is not passively accepting what the teachers say or following rules. Education is what happens to you after learning something. Knowledge is important in your education only if it changes you or makes you a better person. Becoming more mindful, powerful, insightful, and more attuned to life is what knowledge through education should bring. Otherwise, if the quality of life does not change for the better, then you have not been educated properly. Our lives can change for the better primarily by changing our thinking. We can build happier, healthier, harmonious, more comfortable lives by adopting more dynamic thinking that can make us win over the challenges of living in today’s hectic environment. Schools should be able to encourage and effect new and dynamic thinking.

IN SCHOOL YOU GRADUATE WITH ONE DEGREE. IN SELF- EDUCATION THROUGH MY ONLINE KAMALAYAN LIFE-LONG LEARNING CENTER, IT'S LIKE EARNING SEVERAL DEGREES WITHOUT EXAMS AND REQUIREMENTS.

How would I describe myself now? Before I used to describe myself with the companies I worked with & the positions I held. I remember a friend telling me that he had collected 10 calling cards from me from 10 different companies & was confused as to what I really did. Now I say that I am happy helping people discover their true selves. I am a free spirit.

When I got out of school & worked with a theater group, my parents told me to quit & instead get a real job. Since I took up Theater Arts in college I was confused as to what they meant. Just to please them I worked in the government. After nine months, I knew I wasn’t cut out for a “real job.” After forty years of circling around from one company to another I finally found a direction that I’m happy doing.

Why did I put up Kamalayan Libraries? Because I have hundreds of books I collected through the years and I want to share them with others. I could have sold them or have given them away but what I realized was that I became successful in my different careers by reading these books. Let me start by sharing that I never studied, or rather, took my studies seriously during my elementary, high school, and college years. All that was required of me by my parents was a diploma. I did the worst to ensure my graduation. I befriended my teachers, bribed my classmates to do my home work, or simply just failed some subjects and took them up again.

When I finally got out from college, I applied for jobs in different companies but was not accepted because I failed the IQ tests. It dawned on me that I never learned anything from school and even the few things I learned could not even help me get a decent job. I felt sort of depressed and it made me decide to do something about my life. I started reading my old textbooks thinking that I could make up for the lost time.

Then I met an old friend who graduated summa cum laude from a prestigious school. I told him how lucky he was to have a good job and how miserable my case was. What he told me was something that completely changed my life. He said that I was luckier because he had a hard time unlearning most of the things he learned from school and here I was with nothing to unlearn. I felt insulted but he continued and suggested that I could read and study the newest books and learn the latest concepts which are relevant in this day and age without much struggle in unlearning deeply embedded, outmoded beliefs like what he had experienced.

I made the bookstores my library and searched for information which would provide me the new knowledge I needed to become successful. I read and bought as many as 15 books a month by authors like John Naisbit, Deepak Chopra, Og Mandino, Robert Kiyosaki, Wayne Dyer, Ernest Holmes, Marilyn Ferguson, Stephen Covey, AlvinToffler, Anthony Robbins, and practiced whatever lessons I learned from them. I simply learned how to learn and got myself into a life- long-learning process.

I remember visiting a friend in his office where I met and conversed with the owner of the company he worked for. His boss was amazed with the modern knowledge I shared. To my friend’s surprise, I was offered by his boss to manage a big department in their company. I became too successful doing the job and was offered free travels abroad, a new car, and a fat salary. Months later, I was pirated by another company and I never had to apply for a job from then on. As a matter of fact, I‘d even resign from one company and immediately I would be offered by another competing company.

By studying modern books, I was able to develop two intelligences which I took for granted in my early years. I honed my interpersonal and intrapersonal skills in the process. The books I read were mostly about relationships and knowing about oneself. Later did I realize that I transformed into a better person. When low moments came into my life, I motivated and talked myself out of those situations and came out a winner. I created a new level of consciousness in me. Whatever I wanted, I was able to manifest it easily in my life. I discovered new principles and a new way of thinking which were very powerful. Had I learned these principles before when I was still a student, I could have radically changed the course of my life much earlier. I discovered that I can train my right brain which dealt with creativity, emotions, and the unknown, and eventually learned to use also my neglected left brain which dealt with logic, mathematics, and facts, which were what I needed when I was in school. It was only now that I realized how our educational system can become transformational by teaching whole- brain thinking.

In this period of great change due to technological advancements, traditional lifestyles and careers have become obsolete. A new way of thinking brought about by holistic education or education of the whole person is needed to survive in this 21st century. Learning –how- to learn and life- long- learning processes are what’s necessary now.  Many already have joined my Kamalayan learning groups dealing with interesting new concepts found in modern books like "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle and "Conversations with God" by Neale Donald Walsch. These books should be required reading not only for students but most especially for teachers. We can transform culture through education only if the teachers themselves are transformed first. A new world will emerge if we change the content of education of our children.

There is no One True Calling or Destiny. We are Multipotentialites as how Emilie Wapnick describes it in her book "How To Be Everything." What creates unhappiness in our life is the belief in the myth that we are here for just one purpose, that we are here in this world to fulfill what we came here for. The question "What do you want to be?" had created more damage and confusion in our lives forcing us to create a single identity.

SELF EDUCATION OR STUDY FROM HOME (SFH) THROUGH KAMALAYAN LIFE-LONG LEARNING IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS IN THE 21st CENTURY.

I would like to remind you all that studying does not end in graduation. You are students for life. You have to keep on learning new subjects, new concepts, new principles and many more. Now is the best time to educate yourself because no teacher is going to pressure you, no grades to work for, and no need to wake up early to be in time for class.
You now have the opportunity to choose the' real' subjects you would like to learn unless you still don't know who you are and what you want. I won't blame you for that because I know many schools still don't teach their students who they are because the teachers themselves don't know who they are as well. If you don't understand who you are, you will just put up things around you to justify your existence. You don't have to do that. KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT AND DO IT. You can create a wonderful life the way you want it only if you know how to use your Consciousness or Kamalayan. You are not only students for life but STUDENTS OF LIFE! The learning starts now. Study now at the Kamalayan Learning Alternative Success System (KLASS) daily at 5:15 pm in Facebook Live.
